Air Canada like a few other airlines prefers to use the piece system as it is simpler to manage than the weight system. Air Canada also offers a loyalty scheme that allows you to take more than the average traveller baggage allowance. Air Canada however enforces a strict luggage size policy whereby you cannot take a piece of luggage if it is greater than the allocated size on your ticket.
